MAMA Tom Yum Pork is the pork variant in MAMA’s Tom Yum line, sitting alongside the much more famous Tom Yum Shrimp that I grew up eating and use in my MAMA Shrimp Tom Yum Upgraded recipe. I wanted to see how the pork version compares to the shrimp one.
Produced in Thailand by Thai President Foods Public Company Limited.

What’s in the Package
Inside the green and orange foil pouch you’ll find a small square block of thin wavy wheat noodles. It also includes three seasoning packets: a dry soup base powder, a chili paste, and an oil packet. There are a lot of sesame seeds in there too.

How to Cook MAMA Tom Yum Pork Instant Noodles
- Put the noodles and all three seasoning packets into a bowl.
- Pour in 1 1/4 cups of boiling water, cover the bowl, and let it steep for 3 minutes.
- Stir to incorporate the oil and serve.

How Does It Taste
I liked this one from the first sip, and so did James. The sour is the best part. I could taste kaffir lime and a lot of citric acid.
It tastes like the Tom Yum Shrimp, but with a meaty pork flavor. Thereโs a little spice, but not much. The sesame seeds are an interesting choice. There are a lot of them and they get stuck in your teeth. I couldnโt taste them at all.
The noodles are standard thin wavy ramen, a 1 out of 5 on thickness. The citric acid is so strong that I didnโt get the cardboard taste these noodles can sometimes have.
How Does It Compare
The obvious one to compare it to is the MAMA Tom Yum Shrimp, the one I grew up on. The pork version is just as sour, but it tastes meatier instead of shrimpy.
The Wai Wai Quick Zabb Tom Yum Shrimp is similar and a little spicier. If you love the shrimp MAMA but want something meatier and less seafood-y, try the pork one.

How to Level Up MAMA Tom Yum Pork Instant Noodles
First, squeeze some fresh lime over the finished bowl. Itโs already sour, but fresh lime makes it taste fresher.
Fish balls are the other easy add. The picture on the front of the pack shows them too. Toss a handful in while the noodles steep.

Final Verdict
James and I both liked MAMA Tom Yum Pork right away. Itโs just as sour as the Tom Yum Shrimp. The pork makes it taste meatier than the shrimp one.
