The Ve Wong Oriental Style Instant Noodles Vegetarian Flavor is a Taiwanese product and the third Ve Wong variety I’ve tried alongside the Sesame Chicken and the Spicy Beef. For James, it was a nostalgic bowl since he grew up eating it.
Produced in Taiwan.

What’s in the Package
Inside the wrapper is a square block of fried wheat noodles and two flavor sachets. The first is a seasoning powder packet that contains the seasoning powder mixed with dehydrated vegetables like cabbage, carrot, string bean, mushroom, and seaweed, and the second is a liquid oil sachet.

How to Cook Ve Wong Oriental Style Instant Noodles Vegetarian
1. Put the noodles and all the contents of seasoning and oil packages into a bowl. Pour in 450ml of boiling water. Cover the bowl. Let stand for 3 minutes before serving.
OR
2. Add noodles into 2 cups (approx. 500 ml) of boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Add seasoning and oil. Mix well and serve.

How Does It Taste
The first thing James and I both noticed was how oily the broth is. It’s noticeably more so than you’d expect from a vegetarian instant noodle. The flavor is simple and classic. You can taste the sesame oil, shallots, and MSG. That’s really the whole profile and it works in a comforting, familiar way without trying to do too much.
Is it exciting on its own? No. But that’s not really the point. It’s the kind of bowl you eat when you want something warm and uncomplicated. The sesame oil and shallot combination is pleasant and the MSG ties it together the way it always does.
The noodles are thin and standard at a 1 out of 5 on thickness. Light and simple.
How Does It Compare
Within the Ve Wong lineup the Vegetarian Flavor is the most understated of the three reviewed on this site. The Sesame Chicken has the rice wine and chicken fat depth that gives it more complexity. The Spicy Beef has the star anise and Chinese cinnamon that give it a clear identity. The Vegetarian is the blank canvas of the three which is either exactly what you want or not enough, depending on the day. The Samyang Vegetasty is the other vegetarian instant ramen on this site that follows a similar blank canvas approach but it has a bit of spice in it.

How to Level Up Ve Wong Oriental Style Instant Noodles Vegetarian
Napa cabbage, bok choy, and fresh scallions are the additions that do the most work here. The crunch and freshness would be great against the oily sesame broth. Crack an egg directly into the broth while it’s still hot and stir it through.

Final Verdict
This ramen is a nostalgic, simple bowl that doesn’t pretend to be more than it is. The sesame shallot broth is comforting and the blank canvas quality makes it one of the easier instant ramens to customize. We would buy this again.
