If you’ve tried the shrimp and chicken versions of the Tapatio Ramen Noodle Soups, you’ll find this one treads very familiar ground. It delivers that same straightforward, one-note flavor profile.
Produced in Vietnam.
In my opinion there’s really no discernible difference between this original version and its shrimp or chicken counterparts. It tasted mostly of garlic and onion powder.

This one lacks the slightly aromatic note that was present in the other two. However, it also lacks any real spice. The broth also felt a bit diluted, which didn’t help with the overall flavor intensity.

Like its other versions, it could greatly benefit from the addition of toppings to provide some much-needed depth. Iโd recommend adding a soft boiled egg and smoked shredded pork (store bought or smoke it yourself if you’re feeling ambitious).

Frequently Asked Questions
For the spice level, my friend James, who taste tests the ramens with me, gives his rating out of 5 based on his experience with the heat. My own spice tolerance tends to be higher than most, so James’s rating gives a more general sense of the spiciness. Keep in mind that spice is still subjective, so what’s mild for him might be spicy for you, and vice versa!
That’s how thick or thin the broth is. A 1/5 would be very watery, while a 5/5 would be super thick and almost syrupy.
This is just a general gauge of how thick the noodles are compared to other instant ramen noodles I’ve tried. A 1/5 would be very thin, like vermicelli, and a 5/5 would be very thick and wide.
Here, I’m just describing the style or texture of the noodles, like “udon-like” for a chewy and thick noodle, or “thin and curly” for a more classic instant ramen style.

I like this one and it is easy to find around the Midwest. I’ve repurchased a few times, and usually add an egg or two.
Itโs a little spicy and sour/vinegary, but it doesnโt have a specific flavor like chicken or beef.
