Maruchan Soy Sauce is the most straightforward bowl in the Maruchan lineup. There’s not a lot going on but that’s actually part of the point. The neutral base makes it one of the more useful packets to have around when you want to build something rather than eat it as is.
Produced in the United States. Distributed by Japan.

What’s in the Package
Inside the packaging, youโll find a standard square block of fried wheat noodles and a single silver sachet. This packet contains the Soy Sauce flavor soup base.

How to Cook Maruchan Soy Sauce Flavor
- Bring 2 cups (approx. 500ml) of water to a boil in a small pot.
- Add the noodle block to the boiling water. Cook for 3 minutes, stirring occasionally to separate the strands.
- Turn off the heat and stir in the contents of the Soy Sauce flavor packet.
- Mix well until the seasoning is fully dissolved and transfer the noodles and broth to a bowl.

How Does It Taste
The flavor is predominantly salty and MSG-forward. The actual soy sauce character is a hint. It’s present enough to justify the name but not prominent enough to be the star. James and I both agreed this is a one-note bowl straight out of the packet.
How Does It Compare
Within the Maruchan lineup the Soy Sauce is the most neutral flavor of the ones we’ve reviewed. The Chicken has more character. The Beef has more depth. The Soy Sauce has the least going on by itself but the most potential as a canvas. If you’re looking for something to customize heavily this is the one to start with.

How to Level Up Maruchan Soy Sauce Ramen Noodles
I would add a soft-boiled egg or egg ribbons, green onions and white onion cut through the salt, and a splash of actual soy sauce and a drizzle of chili oil takes the bowl somewhere more interesting.
Final Verdict
On its own this is a weak bowl. As a base it’s one of the most useful packets in the Maruchan lineup. Add real soy sauce, aromatics, and whatever protein you have around and you’ve got something worth eating. Don’t open it expecting the packet to do all the work.

The flavor was lacking a lot so I will recommend adding a bit of soy sauce to elevate it if you’re lazy.
Here, I used it as a seasoning additive for a dinner party I held last year. I added oyster sauce, miso paste, goghughan, bean paste and a little mirin for the broth and some other powders like garlic, onion and paprika.
I ate it with steak, red onions, chive, mushrooms, sesame seeds and corn. Delicious!
Itโs a great base option for vegetarians on the cheap, and easily upgradable. I get the most satisfaction when I fry the seasoning packet with other aromatics.
This flavor is really really sad by itself. If youโre eating just the ramen noodles, forget it, you might as well use actual soy sauce.
