Maruchan Wonton Soup Spicy Chicken is an interesting format since it has instant wontons in a chicken broth rather than a standard ramen noodle. The broth surprised me.

Inside the packaging, you’ll find a bundle of raw, non-fried wonton skins along with two sachets. There is a transparent garnish packet containing dehydrated vegetables like corn, cabbage, and carrots. The second silver flavor packet holds the concentrated spicy chicken soup base.

How to Cook Maruchan Wonton Soup Spicy Chicken
- Carefully remove the bowl, add the flavor packet, and stir gently until the spicy chicken broth is well-incorporated.
- Remove the lid and the two internal packets. Empty the contents of the garnish packet onto the wonton skins.
- Fill the container to the inside fill line with room-temperature water.
- Cook uncovered on high for 4 minutes.
- Leave the bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes to allow the wontons to finish softening.
How Does It Taste
The broth smells like a standard wonton soup and delivers on that. Salty, chicken-forward, and enjoyable in that classic instant soup way. It’s a familiar comfort and it works.
The wontons are the letdown. They’re essentially thin sheets of dough with a filling that’s so minimal it’s nearly nonexistent. The wrapper texture is slippery and fine but there’s no meat to speak of inside. It feels more like a noodle soup with wonton-shaped pasta than an actual wonton soup. If you’ve had real wonton soup the comparison is unflattering.
The spice level is a 1 out of 5. There’s a mild warmth but the spicy chicken label is an overstatement. It’s the same story as most of the Maruchan lineup when spice is in the name.

How Does It Compare
This sits in a different format category from the rest of the Maruchan lineup. There’s no ramen noodles, just wontons. The broth character is closest to the Maruchan Chicken Flavor but the format is the differentiator. If you’re choosing between this and the standard Chicken packet for a comforting soup the Chicken packet gives you more actual noodle for the same price. This one is worth trying once for the novelty.

How to Level Up Maruchan Wonton Soup Spicy Chicken
A soft-boiled egg adds richness the thin broth is missing. Green onions right before serving. A drizzle of chili oil delivers the heat the spicy chicken name promises but doesn’t land.

Final Verdict
The broth is better than expected. The wontons are worse. If you go in knowing the wontons are mostly dough and treat it like a light chicken soup with an interesting format it’s a decent bowl. Add a soft boiled egg and chili oil and it gets there.
