You know exactly what you’re getting into with this one the second you open it. The shrimp smell hits immediately and the little dried shrimp are visible right on top. I personally didn’t find it overly shrimpy but if seafood smell is not your thing consider yourself warned.

Produced in the United States. Distributed from South Korea.

How to Cook Nongshim Bowl Noodles Spicy Shrimp

Hot Water Method

  1. Open the lid halfway and empty the soup base sachet onto the noodles.
  2. Pour boiling water up to the inside fill line.
  3. Close the lid and let sit for 3 minutes. Stir well before serving.

Microwave Method (1000W)

  1. Completely remove the paper lid and add the soup base powder.
  2. Fill with room-temperature water to the inside fill line.
  3. Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Stir thoroughly and serve.

How Does It Taste

Despite the Hot and Spicy label the broth is sweeter than spicy. James put the spice at a 1 out of 5 and that’s accurate. The shrimp flavor is present and enough to carry the bowl but the sweetness is the dominant note once you’re eating it.

The bowl comes with corn, peas, and the dried shrimp already included. The corn works well. The peas have a dry chalky texture that I wasn’t a fan of. James disagreed, he actually likes the dried peas.

The broth is very thin and the noodles are on the thinner side too. Eat it while it’s hot.

How Does It Compare

Within the Nongshim Bowl Noodles lineup the Spicy Shrimp is the most seafood-forward of the three we’ve reviewed. The Hot and Spicy has more broth complexity with the seaweed and narutomaki. The Spicy Chicken is the most generic. This one sits in the middle. It has a distinct identity but the sweet broth and chalky peas hold it back from being the best in the lineup. Start with the Hot and Spicy if you haven’t tried any of them yet.

How to Level Up Nongshim Bowl Noodles Spicy Shrimp

Garlic butter shrimp on top doubles down on the seafood flavor in the best way. Imitation crab is an easier option that works just as well. Steamed broccoli adds something green and cuts through the sweetness. If you’re microwaving this bowl crack an egg on top for the last minute of cooking.

Final Verdict

A solid seafood cup that delivers on shrimp flavor even if the spice label oversells the heat. The sweet broth is the main surprise.
