What I liked about this Vifon Instant Porridge Beef Flavour (Chao Bo) is that it’s comforting. It has a creamy base that feels consistent and smooth from the first spoonful to the last. Itโs exactly what you want when you’re looking for something easy.
Produced in Vietnam.

What’s in the Package
This package contains a base for a traditional Vietnamese rice congee. Inside, you will find a bowl of dried rice flakes that act as the porridge base, along with two sachets. The silver Soup Base sachet contains the beef-flavored seasoning powder, while the transparent sachet holds the Flavoring Oil.

How to Cook Vifon Instant Porridge
- Empty the rice flakes and the contents of both the Soup Base and Flavoring Oil sachets into a bowl.
- Pour in approximately 1.5 cups (350ml) of boiling water.
- Cover the bowl tightly and let it sit for 3 minutes.
- Stir thoroughly. The rice flakes will break down and thicken the water into a creamy porridge.

How Does It Taste
The porridge is smooth and consistent from the first spoonful to the last. The beef flavor is well-balanced and the seasoning is right. I didn’t reach for soy sauce once. If you know me you know I add soy sauce to almost every porridge I eat. The fact that this didn’t need it says a lot.
Is it as complex as a home-cooked chao? No. It lacks the aromatics you get from a slow-simmered pot. But for an instant version we think it’s well-calibrated and comforting. This is a sick day bowl. Something easy when you don’t want to think about cooking.
How Does It Compare
The Vifon Instant Porridge with Salted Egg is the other Vifon porridge we’ve reviewed. The Haidilao Cup Rice Red Stew Flavor is another instant rice-based bowl worth comparing but in a stew format rather than porridge. The Chao Bo is the most straightforward and comforting of the rice-based instant options on the site.

How to Level Up Vifon Instant Porridge Beef Flavour
Shredded rotisserie chicken and fresh green onions for the quick version. For the more traditional approach, a century egg or quail eggs, and fried shallots on top for crunch. Don’t skip the fried onions. They change the texture of the whole bowl.
Final Verdict
A well-seasoned instant porridge that doesn’t need fixing out of the packet. Smooth, comforting, and exactly what it’s supposed to be. The fried onion and century egg combination takes it somewhere special if you have those on hand.
