This instant pho has a classic Vietnamese flavor profile. The smell has a noticeable star anise scent that is very characteristic of traditional pho.

Produced in Vietnam.

The flavor also includes hints of turmeric, coriander, and a touch of garlic. While the broth is slightly bland and could use more salt, it features little chicken soy bits that add a nice texture. I would recommend trying to cook this with about 50ml less water to make the flavor more concentrated.

Broth in ramekin

It’s a light and comforting option, especially given its relatively low calorie count of 210. The noodles are wider than standard noodles but still thin, and they have a good texture. I enjoyed this instant pho quite a bit and will probably eat this more often.

This was also really easy to cook as well since you just needed to add everything with hot water in a bowl and wait 3 minutes.

Cooked noodles and broth in bowl

To level up this bowl and bring it closer to an authentic pho experience, Iโ€™d suggest adding a variety of pho toppings like bean sprouts and cilantro. Rotisserie chicken would also be a great addition to provide more protein. For an even richer flavor, you could try preparing the noodles with chicken broth instead of water.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you determine the spice level?

For the spice level, my friend James, who taste tests the ramens with me, gives his rating out of 5 based on his experience with the heat. My own spice tolerance tends to be higher than most, so James’s rating gives a more general sense of the spiciness. Keep in mind that spice is still subjective, so what’s mild for him might be spicy for you, and vice versa!

What does “Broth Viscosity” mean?

That’s how thick or thin the broth is. A 1/5 would be very watery, while a 5/5 would be super thick and almost syrupy.

How do you rate “Noodle Thickness”?

This is just a general gauge of how thick the noodles are compared to other instant ramen noodles I’ve tried. A 1/5 would be very thin, like vermicelli, and a 5/5 would be very thick and wide.

What do you mean by “Noodle Type”?

Here, I’m just describing the style or texture of the noodles, like “udon-like” for a chewy and thick noodle, or “thin and curly” for a more classic instant ramen style.
