Samyang Buldak Tomato Pasta Spicy Chicken is the first Buldak variety we’ve tried where the instructions specifically tell you to drain all the water, not just most of it. Every other Buldak tells you to keep a small reserve. This one doesn’t. We think that’s what helps the sauce cling so tightly to the noodles.

Produced in South Korea.

What’s in the Package

Inside the packaging, youโ€™ll find a square block of fried wheat noodles and two sachets. The red sachet contains the Tomato Pasta Buldak liquid sauce, and the maroon-and-white sachet contains the seasoning powder, which features a blend of tomato and herb flavors.

How to Cook Samyang Buldak Tomato Pasta

  1. Bring 600ml (about 2.5 cups) of water to a boil.
  2. Add the noodle block and boil for 5 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and drain the water, leaving about 8 tablespoons (50ml) in the pot.
  4. Add the tomato liquid sauce and the seasoning powder.
  5. Stir-fry over low heat for 30 seconds until the sauce thickens to your preference.

How Does It Taste

It’s spicier than the original Buldak. James put it at a 4 out of 5. The tomato character is there but subtle. It’s less fresh tomato and more roasted tomato with a hint of something ketchup-adjacent underneath the Buldak base. If you’re expecting a bold tomato pasta flavor you’ll be surprised by how much the Buldak heat dominates. The tomato is a note rather than the main event.

The noodles are the standard Buldak wavy format at a 2 out of 5 on thickness. They pick up the sauce well and draining all the water gives them a dry saucy coating that works better than the reserve-water versions.

How Does It Compare

Within the Buldak lineup the Tomato Pasta is the most heat-forward of the pasta-adjacent varieties. The Samyang Tangle Chunky Tomato Pasta is a separate Samyang tomato noodle product with a more developed tomato flavor and less heat.

For a tomato instant noodle that actually tastes like tomato the Omachi Spaghetti Instant Noodles is the better option. The Buldak Tomato Pasta is better understood as a hot Buldak bowl with tomato undertones.

How to Level Up Samyang Buldak Tomato Pasta Spicy Chicken Stir-Fried Ramen

Italian meatballs lean into the tomato pasta direction and give the bowl the substance the sauce is suggesting. Parmesan grated on top adds salt and a savory note that complements the ketchup-adjacent tomato base.

Final Verdict

Spicier than the original and more interesting than a straight Buldak because of the tomato undertone. The drain-all-water instruction makes a real difference in the sauce texture. If you want more tomato flavor look elsewhere, if you want a hotter Buldak with a subtle twist this delivers.
