Samyang Buldak 2x Spicy Chicken Stir-Fried Ramen in packaging

These noodles are notorious for their heat, which is why they’ve become a staple for online spicy food challenges. Even the original flavor is a struggle for many, but this 2x version really pushes the limit.

Produced in South Korea.

The first thing you notice with this ramen is a strong smell of sweetness, which provides a deceptive contrast to the heat that’s about to come. The spiciness hits you really hard and fast. It’s a powerful, building heat that definitely lives up to its reputation from the viral spicy challenge.

Noodle brick, sauce packet, and seasoning flakes

It’s hard to taste anything past the spice with these noodles.

To help balance the intense heat and make the ramen a more well-rounded dish, adding American cheese would be a great idea. Its melty and salty creaminess helps to cut through the fiery spice. Anything else salty, like sliced meat, would also be a good addition. A soft-boiled egg would help with its runny yolk helping to coat the noodles.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you determine the spice level?

For the spice level, my friend James, who taste tests the ramens with me, gives his rating out of 5 based on his experience with the heat. My own spice tolerance tends to be higher than most, so James’s rating gives a more general sense of the spiciness. Keep in mind that spice is still subjective, so what’s mild for him might be spicy for you, and vice versa!

What does “Broth Viscosity” mean?

That’s how thick or thin the broth is. A 1/5 would be very watery, while a 5/5 would be super thick and almost syrupy.

How do you rate “Noodle Thickness”?

This is just a general gauge of how thick the noodles are compared to other instant ramen noodles I’ve tried. A 1/5 would be very thin, like vermicelli, and a 5/5 would be very thick and wide.

What do you mean by “Noodle Type”?

Here, I’m just describing the style or texture of the noodles, like “udon-like” for a chewy and thick noodle, or “thin and curly” for a more classic instant ramen style.

I like this noodle a lot as itโ€™s very spicy and I like suffering. Although you canโ€™t taste the chicken due to the spice, it still tastes good, if youโ€™re into that.

Think about its overall taste (savory, sweet, sour), richness, and authenticity to the advertised flavor.
Think about their texture, consistency, and how well they held up in the broth.
