Lucky Me Pancit Canton is a Filipino staple and the Hot Chili variety is their spicier entry in the lineup. If you’ve read my review of the Chilimansi you already know how much I enjoy this brand.

Produced in the Philippines.

Lucky Me Pancit Canton Hot Chili in package

What’s in the Package

Inside is a rectangular block of wavy wheat noodles, a silver sachet of dry seasoning powder, and a dual-chamber liquid packet. The liquid sachet contains a dark soy sauce and a chili oil. Like the other varieties, the oil can thicken in the cold, so I like to warm it up in my hands to make mixing it in noodles easier.

One thing to mention is that we noticed the noodle block being much smaller than other instant ramen that we’ve tried.

How to Prepare Lucky Me Pancit Canton Hot Chili

  1. Cook the noodle block in a pot of briskly boiling water for 3 minutes.
  2. While the noodles are cooking, empty the seasoning powder, soy sauce, and chili oil onto a plate and blend them into a consistent paste.
  3. Drain the water, then transfer the noodles to the plate. Toss until the noodles are completely coated in the sauce.

How Does It Taste

For a dry noodle with no broth to balance things out, we noticed the salt concentration is a lot. A splash of Filipino vinegar would help to add some acidity.

The spice is a 1 out of 5. I would call more mild than actually spicy.. It reminded me of Indomie Mi Goreng since it was sweet soy dry noodle, but a little one-note on its own.

Noodles are thin and wavy at a 1 out of 5 on thickness. They carry the sauce well and have a decent chew at the right cook time.

How Does It Compare

The Chilimansi is brighter and has a lime note that makes it refreshing. The Hot Chili relies on salt and mild heat rather than having an actual flavor. The Chilimansi is the better standalone bowl. The Hot Chili is the better option to add different toppings.

How to Level Up Lucky Me Pancit Canton Hot Chili

Our biggest suggestion is a small splash of Filipino vinegar directly over the finished noodles. This will help balance out the salt a bit.

A fried egg just seems natural for these type of dry noodles. Break the yolk and toss it through the noodles before eating. You can also add some rotisserie chicken and green onions before serving.

Final Verdict

The Lucky Me Pancit Canton Hot Chili is a solid dry noodle that works best as a base rather than a finished bowl. The salt level is the main thing to manage. The small package size means toppings really need to be added to make this a full meal.

If the calamansi flavor was good, this one is even BETTER! The spice adds that much needed mouthfeel! Living in a household with a lot of people that have a low spice tolerance, they don’t mind this at all, so I’d say it’s pretty good introduction to spice.

Think about its overall taste (savory, sweet, sour), richness, and authenticity to the advertised flavor.
Think about their texture, consistency, and how well they held up in the broth.
