I got this one from my friend Wallace in Toronto when we were shooting my late-night ramen series. It was the extra pack from his episode. Doll is a Hong Kong brand, and it’s what he grew up eating. When you open it, you can see the sesame seeds.

What’s in the Package
Inside the Doll Instant Noodle Sesame Oil Flavor package, you’ll find a block of curly wheat noodles and two seasoning components: a dry soup base powder sachet and a small sesame oil sachet.
How to Cook Doll Instant Noodle Sesame Oil Flavor
- Bring 500ml (about 2 cups) of water to a boil in a pot.
- Add the noodle block and cook for 3 minutes.
- Turn off the heat. Add the dry soup base powder and the sesame oil sachet directly to the pot.
- Stir well to ensure the oil is distributed evenly and the powder is dissolved, then transfer to a bowl.
How Does It Taste
It has a very strong sesame oil flavor, which makes sense since that’s the name.
Behind the sesame there’s a lot of MSG and maybe a little garlic. That’s it. There’s not much else going on. It’s also salty. One of us had to add water.
I can see why Wallace grew up on it. It’s simple and there’s no spice.
The noodles aren’t bad. There’s no aftertaste.
How Does It Compare
The closest one I’ve reviewed is the Ajinomoto Oyakata Yakisoba. Both are mild, not spicy, and taste mostly like one thing. The Oyakata tastes like soy. This one tastes like sesame oil.
How to Level Up Doll Instant Noodle Sesame Oil Flavor
I would add pork meatballs. Just drop them in while the noodles cook. Put some chili oil on top too.
Final Verdict
The Doll Instant Noodle Sesame Oil Flavor is a simple bowl. The sesame oil is strong, there’s a lot of MSG, and the noodles aren’t bad. There’s just not much else going on. I can see why Wallace grew up on it.
