Samyang Buldak Quattro Cheese Spicy Chicken is the most cheese-forward entry in the Buldak lineup. Four cheeses, milk powder, and a sauce that lands somewhere James and I did not expect.

Produced in South Korea.

What’s in the Package

Inside the packaging, youโ€™ll find a square block of fried wheat noodles and two sachets. The orange-bordered sachet contains the Buldak liquid sauce, and the larger yellow-and-purple sachet contains the Quattro Cheese powder (a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, camembert, and gouda).

How to Cook Samyang Buldak Quattro Cheese

  1. Bring 600ml (about 2.5 cups) of water to a boil.
  2. Add the noodle block and boil for 5 minutes and 30 seconds. These noodles are slightly thicker to hold up to the heavy sauce.
  3. Remove from heat and drain the water, leaving about 6 to 8 tablespoons (approx. 50ml) in the pot.
  4. Add the liquid sauce sachet and the Quattro Cheese powder.
  5. Stir well over low heat for 30 seconds until the four cheeses melt into a thick sauce that clings to the noodles.

How Does It Taste

The nostalgic processed cheese flavor is immediately recognizable. It’s creamy, it coats the noodles well, and the four cheese blend gives it a richness the single cheese variety doesn’t have. The flavor reminded us of Kraft Mac & Cheese.

The spice is a 3 out of 5. It’s slightly lower than other Buldak varieties but still very present. The cheese and spice balance here is the best calibrated of the cheesy Buldak formats we’ve tried. Neither dominates the other.

The noodles are the standard Buldak wavy noodle at a 2 out of 5 on thickness. They hold the sauce well and the cheesy coating stays on them throughout the bowl.

How Does It Compare

Within the cheesy Buldak entries the Quattro Cheese has the most developed cheese flavor. The Cheese is the simpler single-packet version with the full Buldak heat. The Carbonara is sweeter and leans toward cream rather than cheese. The Quattro Cheese sits closest to an actual mac and cheese experience while keeping the Buldak heat alive. If you’ve done the Carbonara and the Cheese this one completes the set.

A splash of cream stirred in doubles down on the mac and cheese direction. Chopped hot dogs sliced into the noodles lean all the way into it. If you’re going to go there go all the way.

Final Verdict

Spicy mac and cheese in instant noodle form. James called it immediately and I agreed immediately. The four cheese blend is legitimately good and the heat level is well-managed. One of the more fun entries in the Buldak lineup.
