The Maruchan Ramen Bowl Hot and Spicy Chicken is the spicy one in the Ramen Bowl line. The bowl has a lot more dried bits than a regular Maruchan packet, like dried carrots, dried cabbage and soy protein.

Produced in the United States by Maruchan, Inc.

What’s in the Package

Inside the bowl, you’ll find a round block of air-dried noodles and two separate seasoning packets. There is a green sachet containing a generous portion of dehydrated vegetables, featuring corn, carrots, and green onions. The second, smaller blue sachet is the flavor packet, which holds the concentrated soup base.

How Does It Taste

The first thing we both asked was, why is it sweet? Itโ€™s sweet and spicy and a little bit salty. Thereโ€™s a little citrus in there too. Honestly, it tastes like typical Maruchan with a hint of spice, like they just added some spice powder.

Thereโ€™s a lot of MSG and a lot of chicken bouillon. Thereโ€™s an artificial cabbage taste. Itโ€™s very artificial. Thereโ€™s also a funky aftertaste. We figured out it tastes almost like a Mexican spice.

Itโ€™s not really hot and spicy. Itโ€™s just a hint of spice, about a 2 out of 5. The noodles also soaked up a lot of the broth, even though we didnโ€™t let it sit very long.

How Does It Compare

The regular Maruchan Chicken Bowl is simpler, and the broth tastes mostly like turmeric and chicken. This one is sweeter, with a little citrus and a funky aftertaste.

If you want classic Maruchan chicken, get the regular Bowl. If you want it sweeter with a little spice, try this one.

How to Level Up Maruchan Ramen Bowl Hot and Spicy Chicken Ramen Noodle Soup

Add green onions right before serving. Kimchi would be good too, for some sourness. Enoki mushrooms would also be good in there. Drop them in at the end and let the broth warm them.

Final Verdict

Itโ€™s not bad. Itโ€™s typical Maruchan with a hint of spice, plus a weird sweetness and a lot of MSG. Itโ€™s not really hot and spicy. Add green onions, kimchi and some enoki mushrooms to make it better.
