I picked up the Kurata Foods Vegan Ramen at the Fancy Food Show and the branding caught my attention. The bright colors stood out on a table full of instant noodle products. Kurata is a Japanese brand and this is their core vegan ramen offering.

Produced in Japan.

What’s in the Package

Inside the packaging, there’s a rectangular block of non-fried, air-dried ramen noodles. Alongside the noodles, is a liquid base sachet.

How Does It Taste

The broth is the star. A 3 out of 5 on viscosity which gives it real body for a vegan product. The vegetable flavor is strong and well-balanced. It doesn’t taste like it’s compensating for the absence of meat. I thought it just tastes like a good vegetable broth. James and I were both impressed by how complete it felt on its own.

No spice at all. It’s a 0 out of 5. The noodles are thin and wavy at a 1 out of 5 on thickness.

If you want a soupier bowl add a little more water than the instructions suggest.

How to Level Up Kurata Foods Vegan Ramen

Bean sprouts, green onions, and roasted garlic. The garlic especially since a few cloves or some roasted garlic chips on top make the broth taste noticeably more developed. Chili oil if you want heat.

Final Verdict

The Kurata Foods Vegan Ramen is one of the better vegan instant ramens I’ve tried. The vegetable broth was comforting. Just make sure you add more water than it asks for when cooking these noodles so there’s actually a broth. James and I would both buy this one again.
