What’s in the Package

Inside the packaging, you’ll find a rectangular block of thin, flash-fried wheat noodles and two flavor sachets. The silver Uni-President sachet contains a fine seasoning powder, while the transparent green sachet holds an oil paste.

How to Cook Unif Tung-I Chinese Onion

  1. Bring 2 cups (approx. 500ml) of water to a boil.
  2. Add the noodle block and boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in both the Powder and the Onion Oil Paste.
  4. Stir until the paste is fully melted.

How Does It Taste

Onion, salt, beef bouillon, and MSG, we tasted the flavors in that order. It’s savory and one-dimensional but not unpleasant. The onion is well-balanced and doesn’t cross into overwhelming territory. No spice at all. The broth is thin but it does its job.

The noodles are the standout detail. Flat and wavy with a unique texture and color that’s different from other flat noodles I’ve tried. They’re not thick but the texture is distinct enough to notice and they carry the broth well.

How Does It Compare

Within the Unif lineup the Chinese Onion is the more straightforward of the two we’ve reviewed. The Beef with Herbs has a more developed flavor profile. For a similar onion-forward beef bouillon instant noodle the Sapporo Ichiban Original Flavored Soup is the closest comparison.

How to Level Up Unif Tung-I Chinese Onion Flavor Ramen Noodles

Sliced roast beef leans into the beef bouillon base naturally. A splash of soy sauce and sesame oil adds depth. A fried egg for richness. Skip the vegetables. The broth already has more than enough onion and adding more green elements here doesn’t help. Go straight for the egg and proteins.

Final Verdict

A reliable one-note onion beef noodle with a noodle texture worth noting. It’s not trying to be complex and it doesn’t need to be. Add roast beef and a fried egg and it’s a satisfying bowl.
