Shizuren Snail Rice Noodles in cup packaging

These instant noodles were given to me by my sister Linda, who brought it from California. I was surprised by the amount of packets inside as soon I took off the lid. There were 6 packets and the nice thing is that they added numbers so you knew in which order to add them.

Produced in China.

Rice noodles with 6 seasoning and sauce packets

The smell of pickled veggies is really strong, which comes from the pickled bamboo included. The broth is oily and taste-wise it was sour, slightly spicy, and rich.

Spoon of noodles and rehydrated toppings

The noodles are vermicelli which did a great job at soaking up all the broth. In the pictures, you can see how much broth is on the noodle pulls.

There are mushrooms, peanuts, and tofu skin, adding a fun variety of different flavors and textures. It is very sour, and I like the chili oil in it.

Broth in a ramekin

To get the most out of this ramen, I’d add rice to the bowl after finishing the noodles so that it could soak up all of the delicious chili oil.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you determine the spice level?

For the spice level, my friend James, who taste tests the ramens with me, gives his rating out of 5 based on his experience with the heat. My own spice tolerance tends to be higher than most, so James’s rating gives a more general sense of the spiciness. Keep in mind that spice is still subjective, so what’s mild for him might be spicy for you, and vice versa!

What does “Broth Viscosity” mean?

That’s how thick or thin the broth is. A 1/5 would be very watery, while a 5/5 would be super thick and almost syrupy.

How do you rate “Noodle Thickness”?

This is just a general gauge of how thick the noodles are compared to other instant ramen noodles I’ve tried. A 1/5 would be very thin, like vermicelli, and a 5/5 would be very thick and wide.

What do you mean by “Noodle Type”?

Here, I’m just describing the style or texture of the noodles, like “udon-like” for a chewy and thick noodle, or “thin and curly” for a more classic instant ramen style.

Think about its overall taste (savory, sweet, sour), richness, and authenticity to the advertised flavor.
Think about their texture, consistency, and how well they held up in the broth.
