This is Lucky Me! Chicken Mami, the Filipino take on chicken noodle soup in cup form. Mami is a Filipino noodle soup with roots in Chinese-Filipino kitchens, traditionally made with shredded chicken, a hard-boiled egg, fried garlic, and scallions in a clean chicken broth.

Produced in the Philippines.

What’s in the Package

Inside the cup you get a fried wavy wheat noodle disc and two sachets: a clear pouch with small dehydrated chicken-flavored bits and a silver foil seasoning powder packet.

How to Cook Lucky Me! Chicken Mami Instant Noodle Soup

  1. Peel the foil lid back partway and empty both packets onto the noodles.
  2. Fill the cup with boiling water to the inside line, cover it back up, and let it sit for 3 minutes.
  3. Give it a good stir before you eat.

How Does It Taste

This one is easy and inoffensive, the same way the Lucky Me! Bulalo is. The flavor is almost exactly like Campbell’s chicken noodle soup, that gentle, slightly chicken-y, slightly bland canned-soup taste you remember. Not bad. Just bland.

The chicken note is there but light. The broth is clean and pale. The dehydrated chicken bits add a little chew but not much flavor on their own. James and I both said this is sick-day food. It’s the bowl you reach for when you just want something warm and easy.

The noodles are standard Lucky Me!, thin wavy fried wheat.

How Does It Compare

Within the Lucky Me! line, this Chicken Mami is the chicken-noodle counterpart to the beefier Lucky Me! Bulalo. The Bulalo has more body and the mini meatballs going for it. The Chicken Mami is the simpler, gentler, more Campbell’s-adjacent option.

Against other instant chicken noodle cups, the closest match is the Maruchan Chicken. Both are gentle, both lean canned-chicken-soup. Maruchan has more salt-and-MSG punch. If you want something with more going on in the cup format, the Nissin Cup Noodles Chicken is the more flavored alternative.

For Filipino brand context, this Chicken Mami is the entry-level chicken cup in the Lucky Me! catalog, the most basic and most pantry-friendly option.

How to Level Up Lucky Me! Chicken Mami Instant Noodle Soup

Sliced poached chicken breast or shredded rotisserie chicken stirred in turns this from a snack into a meal. The pack picture shows sliced chicken on top, so that’s the obvious add.

A halved hard-boiled or soft-boiled egg matches the picture and adds the protein the bowl is gesturing at. Pile on some green onions, a few slices of fresh red onion, and a squeeze of calamansi or lemon to brighten the broth.

Final Verdict

The Lucky Me! Chicken Mami is a comforting Filipino chicken noodle cup that sits somewhere between Campbell’s canned soup and a real mami. Not exciting, not bad. I’d buy it again as a pantry staple for sick days, and dress it up with real chicken and an egg when I want it to be an actual meal.
