This is our first Italian instant noodle on the site. The Berruto Tagliatelle Pasta Cup is a $4 import from Italy and honestly that price point set up some expectations that the bowl didn’t meet. James found it in the instant ramen aisle so we’re reviewing it for the website.

Produced in Italy.

What’s in the Package

Inside the cup, youโ€™ll find a bed of flat tagliatelle egg pasta ribbons. The seasoning powder is tucked at the bottom, so you wonโ€™t see it until you add water and stir.

How to Prepare It

  1. Before opening, give the cup a little shake to help loosen the powder at the bottom.
  2. Open the lid halfway and add boiling water up to the internal fill line.
  3. Immediately stir well with a fork, making sure to reach all the way to the bottom to incorporate the hidden powder.
  4. Close the lid and let it stand for 5 minutes.
  5. Give it one last stir to ensure the sauce has thickened around the ribbons.

How Does It Taste

The smell when you first open it is actually pretty good. It smells like a real mushroom sauce. So I was hopeful going in.

Then I tasted it and it was just…bland. You can pick out the cream and mushrooms and there are hints of oregano and parsley in there but nothing really comes through with any conviction. The pasta itself is wide but thin and the texture isn’t great. James and I were both unimpressed.

For $4 that’s a hard sell.

How to Level Up Berruto Tagliatelle Pasta Cup

You need to fix the blandness immediately. I suggest heavy on the Pecorino Romano and a lot of black pepper. If you want to go further, a splash of fresh cream turns this into something closer to a Cacio e Pepe situation. That’s probably the most you can do with it.

Final Verdict

The Berruto Tagliatelle Pasta Cup looks the part and smells promising but the flavor doesn’t back any of it up. For $4 you expect more. It’s not something I’d buy again but with enough Pecorino and black pepper you can at least make it worth finishing.
