This is KampongKu’s Curry Laksa Soup Noodles, labeled both in English and as Mi Kari Laksa in Malay on the front. KampongKu is a Malaysian instant noodle brand and this is their take on the classic curry laksa: a coconut-curry shrimp-paste-forward Malaysian street noodle soup.
Produced in Malaysia.

What’s in the Package
Inside the pack you get a brick of fried wavy wheat noodles, a silver foil seasoning powder packet, and a clear liquid pouch with a thick dark brown laksa soup paste.

How to Cook KampongKu Curry Laksa Soup Noodles
- Boil 360ml of water.
- Add noodles, paste and non-dairy creamer into the pot.
- Cook for 3 minutes, ready to serve.

How Does It Taste
You can tell the broth is going to be good before you even taste it. Right out of the pot it’s noticeably thicker than most instant ramen broths. That’s the laksa paste doing the work.
James and I both picked out shrimp paste right away. There’s a real savory funk under the curry that makes this taste like actual laksa instead of a generic curry. The coconut creaminess is there too, even though there’s no obvious dairy or coconut milk in the soup base. Curry spices, lemongrass, and fried shallot all show up underneath.
The noodles surprised me. I poked at them while cooking and thought they were underdone, but they ate perfectly. Springy, chewy, properly cooked Malaysian-style fried wavy noodles. Noodle thickness sits at 1 out of 5.
There’s warmth and a curry tingle to the spice, but it’s not too intense. We gave the broth viscosity a 2.5 out of 5, meaningfully thicker than most instants thanks to the paste.

How Does It Compare
The closest reference on the site, and the one James named immediately during the tasting, is theย Prima Taste Laksa La Mian. Prima Taste is the Singaporean benchmark for premium instant laksa with thicker noodles and a fully wet paste system. This KampongKu Curry Laksa is the more accessible, slightly lighter Malaysian counterpart. Prima Taste is richer and more complex; KampongKu is more straightforward but still delivers on the proper laksa flavor profile.
If you want a proper home laksa for under $5 and don’t want to make the paste yourself, this is the pick.
How to Level Up KampongKu Curry Laksa Soup Noodles
Real laksa garnishes turn this packet into an actual meal, and the picture on the pack basically tells you what to do. Beansprouts, fried tofu puffs, fresh herbs on top. Beansprouts are the easiest thing to throw in, and they give you that fresh crunch against the rich broth. Crispy fried tofu puffs soak up the broth like little sponges.
Stir a bit of fresh garlic in right at the end too. Sliced chicken breast or shrimp is great here as well, since both soak up all that curry-coconut flavor.
To finish, grab a few mint or laksa leaves if you can find them, give it a squeeze of lime, and lay half a soft-boiled egg on top. A scatter of green onions for bite and color and you’re done.

Final Verdict
The KampongKu Curry Laksa Soup Noodles is a properly made Malaysian curry laksa in instant form. The thick wet paste nails that coconut, curry, and shrimp-paste profile, the noodles cook up perfectly, and the spice stays approachable.
It’s not quite as premium as Prima Taste, but it’s cheaper and easier to find. James and I both took one taste and went “yum,” and that’s pretty hard not to do with this one. I’d buy it again.
