The Acecook Hao Hao Kimchi Flavor Noodles is a Vietnamese instant noodle. The kimchi flavor is a different story from what the package suggests, but in a good way.

Produced in Vietnam.

What’s in the Package

Inside the package, you will find a square block of classic wheat noodles. These are pre-seasoned, giving them a darker golden color. There’s two packets: a silver seasoning powder sachet and a small clear seasoning oil sachet.

How to Prepare It

  1. Place the noodle block and the contents of both seasoning packets into a bowl.
  2. Pour 400ml of boiling water over the noodles.
  3. Cover the bowl and let it sit for 3 minutes.
  4. Uncover, stir well to distribute the kimchi oil, and serve.

How Does It Taste

The Acecook Hao Hao Kimchi Flavor Noodles smells like Mama Tom Yum the moment you open it. The tangy sour smell is unmistakable. The taste coats your tongue with that signature shallot oil goodness that defines the Hao Hao range.

If you look for it there’s a hint of something kimchi-adjacent on the very back end. But for all practical purposes this is a Tom Yum dupe wearing a kimchi costume. The packaging says kimchi. The bowl says Tom Yum. We are not mad about it.

The flavor is good for the price point. We found these for under a dollar. The sourness is bright and well-calibrated, the oil packet adds richness, and the overall experience is more satisfying than the price suggests it should be. Ironically the only way to actually get kimchi flavor from this bowl is to add your own.

The noodles are the standard thin Hao Hao format. It carries the broth well and consistent with the other products in the range.

How Does It Compare

The Mama Tom Yum Shrimp Instant Noodles is the obvious comparison because this bowl tastes like it. The Mama has the more authentic lemongrass and citrus sharpness that makes it the gold standard.

The Hao Hao Kimchi is a reasonable budget alternative to the Tom Yum flavor profile. Within the Hao Hao range the Hot and Sour Shrimp has a more convincing seafood character. This one has a lighter, brighter sourness that’s its own thing.

How to Level Up Acecook Hao Hao Kimchi Flavor Noodles

Processed meats work well here like Oscar Mayer bologna or sliced lunch meat cut into the hot sour broth.

Cilantro, green onions, and enoki mushrooms are all good additions.

And if you actually want what the label promises, add kimchi. The fermented crunch on top of the sour broth gets you closest to what the packaging suggests this bowl should be.

Final Verdict

The Acecook Hao Hao Kimchi Flavor Noodles is a case of mistaken identity that ends happily. The kimchi flavor is essentially absent but the Tom Yum-adjacent sour broth that shows up instead is delicious for the price point.

Rename it in your head, add some bologna and cilantro, throw in actual kimchi if you want the label to be accurate, and enjoy one of the better under-a-dollar instant noodle experiences available.

Think about its overall taste (savory, sweet, sour), richness, and authenticity to the advertised flavor.
Think about their texture, consistency, and how well they held up in the broth.
