Paldo Kokomen Chicken Spicy Soup is one I’d seen at Asian grocery stores for a while before finally picking it up. The packaging promises spice. The smell when you open it backs that up. You can smell strong chili, fresh vegetables, chicken. Then you taste it and the spice never shows up.
Produced in Korea.

What’s in the Package
Inside the packaging, youโll find a large, square block of fried wheat noodles and two sachets. The gold sachet is the soup base and second white sachet contains the flakes, which include a mix of dried green onions and red pepper bits.

How to Cook Paldo Kokomen Chicken Spicy Soup
- Bring 500ml (about 2 cups) of water to a boil in a pot.
- Add the noodle block and the contents of both the soup base and flake packets into the boiling water.
- Simmer for 4 minutes until the noodles are tender and chewy.
- Stir well and pour into a bowl.
How Does It Taste
The broth is creamy and rich with a solid chicken soup character. Comforting in the way that a good chicken noodle soup is comforting. But despite the strong chili smell coming off the packet the heat is essentially nonexistent. James and I both registered it at 0 out of 5. The creaminess takes over completely and the spice just doesn’t follow through.
There’s a generous amount of dehydrated vegetables and soy protein in the bowl which gives it more substance than most instant ramens at this level. The noodles are chewy and hold up well which is consistent with the other Paldo noodles we’ve tried. The Paldo noodle quality is reliably good across the lineup.
How Does It Compare
Within the Paldo lineup the Kokomen sits alongside the Paldo Gompaghetti and Paldo Green Tea Noodle as a bowl where the noodle quality is the consistent highlight. If you come to it expecting the spice the packaging implies you’ll be surprised. Come to it expecting a creamy chicken broth and you’ll enjoy it.

How to Level Up Paldo Kokomen Chicken Spicy Soup
Chili oil is the first thing I’d reach for. It delivers the heat the broth is hinting at but never lands. Blanched napa cabbage adds sweetness and crunch that works well against the creamy base. Grated ginger cooked into the broth adds a warmth that the seasoning packet alone doesn’t give you.
Final Verdict
Good noodles, rich creamy broth, and a spice level that doesn’t match the name or the smell. If you go in with the right expectations this is an enjoyable bowl. Add chili oil and it becomes the bowl the packaging was advertising.

I saw this at my go-to asian grocery and I knew I HAD to try it! The flavor was milder than I thought it was going to be, so I added chilli oil to the broth before adding the noodles.
I used a lot of leftover ingredients for this: dumplings, marinated egg, duck breast, bok choy and pickled jalapenos. Possibly one of my best work!
