Indomie is one of the most popular instant noodle brands in the world and for good reason. Their Mi Goreng line is beloved for its savory dry noodle format. This BBQ Chicken flavor is a sweeter smokier take on that format that brings something a little different to the table.
Produced in Indonesia.

What’s in the Package
Flat wavy noodles with multiple sauce and seasoning packets including a sweet soy sauce, a chili sauce, a seasoning powder, and a fried onion garnish packet. The multi-packet system is classic Indomie and part of what makes it fun to put together. I suggest using scissors especially for the sauce packets.

How to Prepare It
Cook the noodles in boiling water for 3 minutes. While they’re cooking, mix together all the sauce and seasoning packets in a bowl. Drain the noodles completely, then mix with the sauce mixture in the bowl. Add the fried onion garnish on top last to keep the crunch.
How Does It Taste
The dominant flavor is sweetness, a strong prominent sweetness that slightly overwhelms the smoky BBQ chicken flavor underneath. There’s a subtle spice hanging out in the background at about a 1/5 on the heat scale, just enough to notice but nothing close to a burn. The noodles are flat and wavy and hold the sauce well. Compared to the original Mi Goreng, this feels sweeter and less savory overall.
How Does It Compare
The original Indomie Mi Goreng is bolder, saltier and more umami forward. This BBQ Chicken version sacrifices some of that savory depth for sweetness and a smoky note that doesn’t fully deliver on its promise. If you love the original this might feel like a step sideways rather than forward. That said it’s still a solid dry noodle with its own identity.

How to Level Up Indomie Mi Goreng Barbeque Chicken Instant Noodles
A fried egg on top is the first thing I’d reach for since the richness of a runny yolk balances the sweetness really well. Shredded cheddar cheese melted over the top would be a genuinely interesting twist and if you want to dial up the smoky BBQ flavor a drizzle of your favorite BBQ sauce doesn’t hurt either.
Final Verdict
A fun dry noodle with a unique sweet smoky profile that works best as a base for toppings rather than a standalone bowl. The sweetness is its main identity and whether you love it or find it too much will depend entirely on your palate.

It was quite salty the first time I made it because I made it like the original dry noodle, but second time I made it soupy and it was pleasently flavorful! But I prefer the original flavor more.
The ones Iโve tasted are the ones from Indonesia so it might differ from your experiences. I found the noodles to be on the flatter side, unlike the original one with the white packet that has a more cylindrical shape. The flavorโs okay, not my favorite. I feel like the umami taste is not really prominent, but it is savory. Itโs also sweeter than its original counterpart. I donโt find it spicy at all. Overall 7/10.
