Otoki is a Korean brand that most people know from their instant noodles, but this product is something completely different. The Cooked Rice and Fish Rose with Kimchi is an instant rice bowl, not a noodle dish at all. The first thing I noticed was the packaging. It’s high quality, and a reusable black spoon is actually included clipped to the lid.
Produced in South Korea.

What’s in the Package
Inside you get the rice cup, a kimchi sauce pouch, a sesame oil packet, and a seaweed and seasoning packet. The spoon is clipped to the top of the lid. Everything you need is included.

How to Prepare It
Microwave the sealed rice cup for 2 minutes, then transfer the rice to a bowl and mix in the toppings from the packets.
How Does It Taste
The best way I can describe this is deconstructed gimbap or onigiri in a bowl. Every element is there: the sesame oil, the seaweed, the subtle saltiness. They’re incredibly well balanced together. I kept going back for another spoonful. It’s that kind of bowl.
The fish roe doesn’t dominate. You get a subtle flavor from it and a satisfying little burst of texture with each bite. Despite the name, this doesn’t taste overwhelmingly fishy at all. The kimchi adds just enough savory tang to keep things interesting without any heat.
There’s no spice here whatsoever. This is pure comfort food.

How Does It Compare
This doesn’t really compare to anything else on the site because it’s not ramen. It’s closer in spirit to a Japanese convenience store onigiri or a Korean gimbap than any instant noodle product I’ve reviewed. If you’re looking for a break from noodles or want something lighter and more filling, this is its own category entirely.
How to Level It Up
A fried egg is the most natural addition here. The richness of the yolk folds right into the rice and sesame and makes the whole bowl feel more substantial.
For protein, fried SPAM or cooked salmon both pair well with the rice base. Spam especially plays into the Korean comfort food profile this is already going for. If you want heat, a small spoonful of gochujang stirred in is the move. Start with less than you think you need. The base is subtle and you don’t want to overpower it.

Final Verdict
This was one of the best things we tried. It’s not ramen and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s an instant rice bowl that actually delivers on flavor, texture, and that comfort food feeling. The included spoon, the balanced seasoning, the roe texture. It all comes together. If you see this at your local Korean grocery store, I suggest you pick it up.
