The Maruchan Ramen Bowl Hot and Spicy Chicken is the spicier entry in the Ramen Bowl lineup. The bowl version has more dehydrated vegetable content than the standard Maruchan packet and the Hot and Spicy label sets expectations for heat.
Produced in the United States. Distributed by Japan.

What’s in the Package
Inside the bowl, you’ll find a round block of air-dried noodles and two separate seasoning packets. There is a green sachet containing a generous portion of dehydrated vegetables, featuring corn, carrots, and green onions. The second, smaller blue sachet is the flavor packet, which holds the concentrated soup base.

How to Cook Maruchan Bowl Hot and Spicy Chicken
- Stir thoroughly and enjoy.
- Partially peel back the paper lid and remove both packets.
- Empty the contents of the vegetable and flavor packets into the bowl on top of the noodles.
- Pour room-temperature water (if microwaving) or boiling water into the bowl until it reaches the inside fill line.
- Microwave Method: Microwave on high for 3 minutes. Let the bowl sit for 1 minute to finish cooking.
- Boiling Water Method: Simply pour in boiling water, close the lid, and let it steep for 3 minutes.
- Stir thoroughly and enjoy.

How Does It Taste
The flavor is more complex than a standard Maruchan chicken cup but it’s also harder to pin down. There’s a sweetness upfront that neither James nor I expected from something labeled hot and spicy. A citrus note runs alongside it that gives the broth a character that’s different from the regular Maruchan Chicken Bowl.
The MSG presence is clear and typical of the lineup. James picked out the artificial cabbage note from the dehydrated vegetables before I even mentioned it. It’s not unpleasant but distinctly artificial. The bowl finishes with a slightly funky aftertaste that lingers.
As for the hot and spicy claim…it’s not really. There’s a tingle on the tongue that I’d put at about a 2 out of 5 but it doesn’t build into actual heat. If you’re expecting the kind of spice that clears your head this won’t deliver it. It’s mild warmth dressed up in bold packaging.
How Does It Compare
Within the Maruchan Ramen Bowl lineup the Hot and Spicy Chicken is the more complex of the two we’ve reviewed. The regular Chicken Bowl has a cleaner more straightforward profile from the turmeric-forward chicken broth. This one has more going on which makes it more interesting but also more divisive.
James landed on the regular Bowl as the safer pick. I thought this one was worth the curiosity. If you want classic Maruchan chicken comfort reach for the Bowl. If you want something with more character, even if that character is hard to define, this is the one.

Add green onions right before serving. Kimchi is what I’d actually reach for here because it adds the heat the packaging promises but doesn’t deliver, and it helps with that funky aftertaste. If I had enoki mushrooms I’d drop those in too right at the end. Just let the broth warm them through.

Final Verdict
This ramen is a more interesting bowl than you’d expect. The sweetness and citrus note give it a personality the regular Bowl doesn’t have. The spice label is an overstatement. But add kimchi and green onions and this becomes a bowl worth finishing. James is going back to the regular Bowl. I’d buy this one again.
